FRIDAY, JANUARY 21

3:00PM - CHECK IN AT HOTEL

You may check in to your hotel starting at 3pm on Friday. Your room assignments will be sent to you via email in December.

4:00-6:00PM - OPTIONAL CAMPUS TOURS

Starting at 4pm, if you arrive on campus before 6pm, we will be providing MakerSpace and lab tours on Tulane's Uptown campus.

6:00-6:30PM - WELCOME RECEPTION

The Welcome Reception will be held in the Lavin-Bernick Center (LBC). Dinner will be served at 6:30pm.

7:00-8:00PM - FEATURED SPEAKER: DR. KIMBERLY FOSTER

The featured speaker who will kick off the CUWiP at Tulane will be Dr. Kimberly Foster, Tulane's Dean of School of Science and Engineering. See more information about her on the Speakers Information Page.

8:30-9:30PM - SOCIAL ACTIVITY ON CAMPUS

8:30-10:00PM - SHUTTLE TO HOTEL

Shuttles will run from 8:30-10:00pm from Uptown campus to the hotel.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 22

8:15AM - BREAKFAST

Participants who are staying in a hotel, there is hot breakfast available at your hotel. For local participants, breakfast food will be provided on campus.

*Shuttles will begin running at 8:00am. 

9:00AM - STEP UP SESSION

For students who are interested in a career in teaching, this is the session for you! Presented by APS.

9:20-10:05AM - PROF. SKILLS BLOCK

Possible topics include:

  • How to Apply to Research Opportunities, Internships, and Jobs 

  • How to Manage Your Academic Path: Transferring to a New School and Applying to Graduate School 

  • Transitioning from a 2-year to 4-year School

  • Writing an Outstanding Resume 

  • Navigating Interviews and Negotiations 

10:05-10:35AM - COFFEE BREAK

There will be a coffee break from 10:15-10:45am.

10:35-11:20PM - LIFE SKILLS BLOCK

Possible topics include: 

  • Managing your Work-Life Balance for Better Mental Health and Well-being 

  • How to Find a Great Mentor, and Mentor Others in Turn 

  • Stereotype Threat 

  • How to be an Ally 

11:25-12:10PM - AFFINITY GROUP PANELS

12:15-1:00PM - LUNCH

Lunch will be provided at Tulane. We will ensure that all dietary restrictions are accommodated.

1:00-2:30PM - KEYNOTE SPEAKER: DR. DONNA STRICKLAND

The keynote speaker of our conference will be Dr. Donna Strickland, Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. This will be streamed virtually through the central CUWiP website. See more information about her on the Speakers Information Page. 

2:45PM - GROUP PHOTO & BREAK

We will take a group photo at a location TBD. Coffee will be provided during this time.

3-5PM - CAREER FAIR & POSTER SESSION

Join us on the rooftop of Jones Hall to see our telescope!
